Abstract

Objective:To investigate the level of androgens after different Hormone Replacement therapies in postmenopausal women. Material and Methods: In a prospective study tibolone 2,5 mg/day and 170 estradiol 1 mg+noretiltestosteron (NETA) was administered randomly in 68 postmenopausal women. E2, FSH, total and Free testosteron DHEA-S04 and 17-OH progesteron were measured before and after 8 months of therapies in either group. Results: Althowgh in E2+NETA group DHEA-SO4, Free testosteron and 170H-progesteron was found to be decreased after therapy in tibolon group the level of these hormones were significantly increased.FSH level were decreased in both of the groups however in E2+NETA group it was significantly lower than that of the tibolon group. E2 level were increased in both of the groups but the difference between the groups was not significant. Conclusion: Effect of diferent hormone replacement therapies on serum androgen levels in postmenopausal women were found to be different. Since androgens were decreased after E2+NETA therapy additional studies are needed for androgen replacement.
