Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a valid and reliable three-tierconcept diagnostic test which for the Let’s Travel and Learn about theLiving World unit of fifth grade Science lesson and which that providethe students with the level of success and their misconceptions relatedto the unit. The developed test was applied to 210 5th grade studentsattending at three secondary schools in the center of Samsun. A validityand reliability study were conducted for a three-tier concept diagnostictest consisting of a total of 23 items. The reliability of the conceptdiagnostic test was evaluated as 0.80 with the help of KR-20 reliabilityestimation method for the first stage questions. When the three itemswere evaluated together, the difficulty and discrimination values of thetest were calculated as pj: 0.47 and rjx: 0.52. These data show that thedeveloped test has a structure with reliable, medium difficulty andvery good substances.
