Abstract

Simulation is a technique that is using in different disciplines. One of the disciplines in which simulations can beused is teaching Turkish as a foreign language. This study aims to give theoretical knowledge about simulationtechnique in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. Initially, essential elements such as reality of function, simulated environment and structure of simulations are introduced. Secondly, stages of using simulationtechnique are presented to organize a simulation. The parts of preparation, introduction, activity and debriefingare introduced. Then, how to improve language skills with using simulations is explained. Four language skill arediscussed one by one. Then, the roles of a teacher and a student in simulation technique is explained. Then, thelearning environment for a simulation is explained. In simulations, defining groups are very important. For thisreason, some methods such as random assignment, self-‐‑selection, and facilitator assignment for assigningstudents to groups are introduced. Finally, benefits and drawbacks of running simulations in teaching Turkish asa foreign language are discussed. It is thought that this theoretical study can be seen as a guide by teachers whowant to use simulation technique in teaching Turkish as a foreign language.
