Abstract

In this study, gravity and aeromagnetic analysis have been conducted in the region of Malatya-Bingöl-Diyarbakır- Adıyaman, in order to elucidate the crustal structure beneath the region. Boundary analysis technique of the gravity andaeromagnetic data were performed to investigate frontiers and continuations of causative structures and compared with geological informations of the study area. The obtained boundaries of density and magnetization contrast correspond well to themajor geological formations and the structural trends in the area as Bitlis-Pötürge Suture Zone (BPSZ) and East Anatolian FaultZone (EAFZ). For estimating the source depths of causative structures, spectral analysis as power spectrum method was used. Anaverage thickness of 44 km was calculated for the crust in the study area. A two dimensional crust model was generated byinterpretation a SE-NW cross-section profile of gravity data using the Talwani modeling technique. According to this model, thethickness of the crust in the study area lies between 38 km to 51 km. The high gravity and magnetic anomalies around Elazıg innorthern part of EAFZ are related with a body which has high magnetic and density material. In consequence of gravity andmagnetic analysis, boundaries of four regions with different tectonic characters were identified. They are Arabian foreland,BPSZ, high magnetized body and Anatolian Block. Transition zone between BPSZ and high magnetized body is correlated bythe EAFZ which has intense tectonic activity.
