Abstract

Today many companies at the global level use the standards developed by variousinitiatives to present their economic, social and environmental sustainability or corporatesocial responsibility practices in a single report. These initiatives provide significantguidance to companies about which information should take place in which detail, butdiscourse on the ethical dimension needs to be clarified. Therefore this study examines howcorporate social responsibility reports can be seen as understandable and reliable reportsby different stakeholder groups. For this, Habermas s validity claims - understandability, accuracy, truth and sincerity - developed for the theory of communicative action havebeen applied. In fact, corporate social responsibility reports prepared in accordance to theinternationally accepted standards and principles with respect to Habermas validity claimsprovide a two-way communication process with purpose between companies and theirstakeholder, which in turn improves the quality and reliability of the reports
