Abstract

Brachial plexopathy occurs because of the brachial plexus damage from radiation, injury and surgery to axilla, or tumor infiltration. Radi-ation-induced brachial plexopathy becomes symptomatic as loss of sensation and severe shoulder and arm pain with an interval of 4-5 months after adjuvant radiotherapy. Although most of the cases result in motor deficit, some may end with minimal parestesia. We know that chemotherapy has additive effects on neural damage, which may diminish the latency period of brachial plexopathy. If radiation-induced brachial plexopathy is suspected clinically, it is adviced first to exclude regional tumor recurrence and then to confirm the diagnosis of brachial plexopathy with physical and neurologic examination and electrophysiologic studies. In this article, we presented a patient who developed reversible radiation-induced brachial plexopathy after modified radical mastectomy.
