Abstract

To determine whether there is an effect of maternal age on treatment outcomes at assisted reproductive cycle. In this study 569 patients who in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer was made between June 2000- January 2003 at ART department were evaluated retrospectively. Patients were divided to four groups according to their ages as 40yThere were 208v(%36,5), 178v(%31,3), 142v(%25) and 41 v(%7,2) patients in each groups respectively. Collected mature oocytes and transferred embryo numbers were found significantly higher in 40years of age groups. Fertilization and implantation ratios show no difference according to age groups. There was no significant difference between age groups in pregnancy ratios. 40 years of age abortus ratio was found as %40. According to anembrionic, biochemistrical and ectopic pregnancy ratios we couldn't find difference between age groups.40 years of age group. The embryo quality according to age groups ,grade 1 and grade 2 embryo numbers were significantly decreasing as aging. Conclusion: There is a negative effect of maternal age on IVF -ET cycles success. This negative effect is significant in women > or =36 years of age.
