Abstract

Objective: To determine the effect of third trimester hemoglobin level on duration of pregnancy and low birth weight. Materials and Methods: 500 Third trimester pregnant women examined in antenatal outpatient clinic of Zeynep Kamil Women and Children's Education and Research Hospital between the 1st of April 2002 and 1st of the August 2002 were included in this retrospec-tive study. Results: Gestational age at delivery and birth weight were found to be higher in cases whose hemoglobin levels were 10.5-12.5 gr/dl than cases whose levels were 8.5-9.5 gr/dl. Conclusions: Risks of preterm delivery and low birth weight were found to be higher in pregnant women whose hemoglobin levels were lower the 10.5 g/dl and higher the 12.5 g/dl.
