Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate serum potassium, glucose and CPK-MB (creatine phosphokinase - myocardi-al band) changes after nebulised salbutamol treatment in infants with acute bronchiolitis. Fifty three cases with severe acute bronchiolitis were included in the study. Serum potassium, glucose and CPK-MB levels were measured before and after nebulised salbutamol. Clinical scoring before and after treatment was also performed. Mean serum potassium levels were 4.53±0.59 mEq/L and 4.37±0.66 mEq/L before and after treatment respectively. Mean serum glucose was 107.27±49.96 mEq/L and 105.67±23.51 mEq/L before and after treatment respectively. Mean serum CPK-MB level decreased from 31.13±13.98 to 26.58±10.68 U/L. The decrease was statistically significant. Nebulised salbutamol should be used in the treatment of moderate-severe bronchiolitis since it provides significant clinical improvement without causing significant hypokalemic effect.

Özet

Nebulize salbutamol tedavisinin serum CPK-MB (kreatinin fosfokinaz - miyokardiyal bant) ve potasyum düzeyleri üzerine etkisini araştırmak üzere 53 ağır bornşiyolitli sütçocuğunda uygulama öncesi ve sonrasında CPK-MB ve potasyum düzeylerine bakıldı. Tedavi öncesi ve sonrasında serum potasyum düzeyleri sırasıyla 4.53±0.59 mEq/L ve 4.37±0.66 mEq/L bulundu. Ortalama glukoz konsantrasyonları sırasıyla 107.27±49.96 ve 105.67±23.51 idi. Farklılık istatistiksel olarak anlamlı değildi. Ortalama CPK-MB düzeyleri 31.13±13.98'den anlamlı ölçüde 26.58±10.68 U/L'ye düştü. Elde edilen bulgulara dayanarak, nebulize salbutamolün orta-ağır akut bronşiyolitli süt çocuklarında hipopotasemi etkisinden kaygı duyulmaksızın kullanılabileceğine karar verildi.
