Abstract

Plio-Quaternary volcanics around Yeniyapan village, located at the northeast of the Akdağmadeni (Yozgat), are represented by alkali olivine basalts. Major and trace element data reveal the large-ion lithophile element enrichments for these basaltic rocks suggesting derivation from enriched mantle source. Geotectonic discrimination diagram based on the immobile trace elements show that these basaltic rocks display within-plate character. These data imply that the Plio-Quaternary volcanics in the study area originated from the melts formed by relatively small degree partial melting of the enriched mantle source, and ascended from the longitudinal cracks in the crust which develop due to the north-south shortening.
