Abstract

This study aims to determine the alkali silica reactivity of some aggregates quarries from Ankara region. Samples were collected from aggregate quarries located in Kıbrıs köyü, Hasanoğlan, Kazan, Çeltikçi, Kızılırmak and Yenikent, which provide a significant amount of aggregate for concrete production. ASTM C289 chemical method was carried out on the aggregate samples, followed by ASTM C1260 accelerated mortar bar and ASTM C227 long-term mortar bar experiments on the mortar bars. The aggregate samples taken from Kıbrıs köyü and Hasanoglan showed no alkali silica reaction expansion, where as those taken from Kazan, Çeltikçi, Kızılırmak and Yenikent did show some expansion. However, the amount of expansion was below the 0.1% ASTM C1260 standard limit. Therefore, all of the aggregates used in this study were found to be non reactive from alkali silica reaction point of view.
