Abstract

In this study, the potential use of sunflower seed hull hemicellulosic hydrolysate for ethanol production with sunflower seed hull hemicellulosic hydrolysate adapted Pichia stipitis was investigated. For this purpose, P. stipitis was first adapted to hemicellulosic hydrolysate and then fermentation performance of P. stipitis with three hydrolysate which were subjected to different pretreatments was studied by fermentation experiments performed in shaking flasks. The highest concentration of alcohol (9.51g/L), best yield (0.32g/g) and maximum productivity (0.057 g/L h) were obtained with the fermentation of over-limed hydrolysate with CaO. Same alcohol concentration (9,51 g/L) was also achieved with the fermentation of hydrolysate treated with overlimed + sulfite addition.
