Abstract

Genito-pelvic pain and penetration disorders are female sexual dysfunctions that involve vaginismus and dyspareunia. Vaginismus and dyspareunia, previously classified as sexual pain disorders, were defined as genitopelvic pain disorder in the fifth edition of the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Although there is not enough evidence for the incidence, it is generally thought to be common in women. Many factors such as physical/organic, psychological, cultural and phobic, etc. are widely accepted to play a role in etiology. However, since the diagnostic criteria for understanding the cause are not yet sufficient, the methods are used whose likelihood of success are under discussion. Current approaches in treatment are medical treatment methods, physical therapy methods, sexual therapy, psychotherapy and hypnotherapy. In addition, a multidisciplinary team partnership is essential for the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of the disease. The nurses involved in this team have a key role in identifying sexual problems in women. In the study, the prevalence of genito-pelvic pain and penetration disorders, the factors that play a role in the etiology, the diagnosis and treatment methods and the nursing approaches about the subject are aimed to be observed.
