Abstract

In this study enhanced biological phosphorus removal was investigated by using sequencing batch reactor (SBR) under different operational conditions. For this purpose simultaneous feeding and decanting SBR system was provided. The laboratory scale reactor (10 1) was operated for 392 days. There were 2 cycles per day. In each cycle, fill (4 h), anoxie (0.5h), aerobic (7 h) and settling phases was present. In the fill phase, wastewater was fed from the bottom and the anaerobic conditions were realised in the settled sludge. During fill/anaerobic period the water left the system by water displacement. The system provided nitrification, denitrification as well as phosp-horus and organic removal. High amount of COD (90-98 %), PO4-P (60-100 %) and NH4-N (90-95 %) removal was achieved by this system.
