Abstract

Placental GST-n was isolated from full-term placenta by glutathione affinity column. GST was obtained with 0,5 % yield and had a specific activity of 2628 units per milligram protein. Km and Vmax values for glutathione (GSH) and chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzen (CDNB) as substrates were 2mM, 11,1 U/mg min and 0,55 mM, 35,0 U/mg min respectively. it was observed that GST activity was decreased 50-55% by Pre-Par® (Ritodrine HCL) used to prevent the premature birth. Metpamid® (Metoclopramid), an antiemetic, inhibited the enzyme activity 80-85%. Novalgine® (Metamizole), known as an analgesic and antipyretic, is also inhibited enzyme activity 70-80%.In addition to these drugs Sultacide® (Sultamisilin) and lesef® (Ceftriaxon) which have an antibacterial effect inhibited the enzyme activity 10-20%. These results suggested that these drugs must be used carefully in pregnant women.
