Abstract

The aim of this case report is to show the importance of patient's cooperation and patient's oral hygiene on the success of space maintainers. In both of our cases, the decays of the incisors thought to be caused by the unproper use of the space maintainers and poor oral hygiene. Especially, in the second case the localization of the caries was typicial. In this case decays in the mandibular incisors were located lingually under the line of the appliances anterior margin. In first case caries were removed and anterior incisors and maxiller 1. molar teeth were restorated with composite resin filling material. In second case, caries were removed and posterior molar teeth were restorated with amalgam filling material and anterior incisors were restorated with composite resin filling material. Both of the patient were transfered to the Orthodontic Department for further orthodontic treatment. At the end of our cases report, due to the disavantages of the removable space maintainers, we conclude that fixed appliances should be favored whenever possible.
