Abstract

This case report describes the management of a dental traumatic injury, involving the avulsion of a maxillary right central and lateral incisors. A ten-year-old girl was referred to the Department of Pedodontics after an accident at the school. The maxillary right permanent central and lateral incisors were avulsed and left central incisor was intruded. The avulsed teeth had been out of the mouth for 3 hours but had been stored immediately in physiologic saline. The avulsed maxillary right central and lateral permanent teeth were repositioned in their sockets and splinted. She root canal extirpation was performed a week after the replantation. At this visit the splint was removed. The root canals were filled with gutta- percha and AH26 Plus. After five months, a surface root resorption defect was noted on the maxillary right central incisor and a resorption at the apical region of the maxillary right lateral incisor . Three years after the treatment a resorption was detected at the apical region of the maxillary left central incisor. Despite the ankylosis of maxillary right central incisor, the tooth was functioning normally. As a conclusion especially in children replanted tooth acts as the ideal space maintainer, so the avulsed permanent permanent incisor teeth should be replanted even though the prognosis may seem poor.
