Abstract

The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effects of fissure sealants with and without fluoride on caries- like formation in enamel, under full and semi- retention condition. Twenty newly extracted caries-free human third molar teeth underwent fluoride- free prophylaxis and were randomly divided into two groups. According to the manufacturer' s instructions, Fissurit and Fissurit F were applied to the occlusal surfaces. After polymerization, the teeth were sectioned bucco-lingually. The sealants on the one side of the teeth were abraded in order to stimulate the intra-oral abrasion. The teeth were stored in acidified gelatin gel for 5 weeks in order to produce caries-like lesions. The specimens were evaluated by polarized light microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope. As a result; no caries-like lesion was observed around the fissure sealant margins in all samples. Even in the case of partial retention, the residuel resins in the tags could continue their caries-preventive effects.

Özet

Bu in vitro çalışmanın amacı; fluorlu vefluor-suz fissür örtücülerin tam ve yarı retansiyon koşullarında mine yüzeyini çürüğe karşı koruma etkinliklerini değerlendirmektir. Yirmi adet yeni çekilmiş çürüksüz yirmi yaş dişlerine fluor içermeyen bir patla proflaksi uygulandıktan sonra dişler rastgele iki gruba ayrıldı. Üretici firma önerileri doğrultusunda dişlerin çiğneyici yüzeylerine Fissürit ve Fissürit F uygulandı. Polimerizasyon sonrası dişler bukko-lingual yönde ikiye ayrıldı. Dişlerin bir yanlarındaki fissür örtücüler, ağız içindeki aşınmayı taklit etmek amacıyla aşındırıldı. Örnekler yapay çürük lezyonu oluşturmak amacıyla 5 hafta asidifiy e jelatin jel içerisinde bekletildikten sonra polarize ışık mikroskobu ve SEM'de incelendi. Sonuç olarak; tüm örneklerde fissür örtücü kenarlarındaki mine yüzeyinde yapay çürük benzeri lezyona rastlanmamıştır. Bu sonuç, fissür örtücüler diş yüzeyinden uzaklaşmış olsa dahi, taglar içerisinde kalan rezin artıklarının koruyucu görevi sürdürdüğünü göstermektedir.
