Abstract

In this study, seismometer, device of vibration measurement, is investigated. Seismometer is generally known as a device for measuring earthquake. Basic mechanisms in the crust of earth that produce quake are not fully understood. Theories and suggestions regarding to these mechanisms have been discussed. Earthquake maps were prepared by measurements. Seismometers can be used to define the magnitude of an earthquake. These measurements give the destruction power of quake. Selection of elements of seismometer is very important for a very precise measurement of vibration. When defining the characteristics of these element, theoretical knowledge is necessary. For this purpose, a physical model of seismic is developed. By the use of the Newton's law of motion, external force, mass, coefficient of spring and damping parameters are selected for the mathematical model. Measuring capacity and improving the precision of this device is possible to improve by changing the damping factor. Moreover, accurate results are obtained for defining the small magnitudes related to wide measuring frequency.
