Abstract

Sneddon syndrome (SS) is characterized by recurring cerebrovascular accidents, livedo reticularis, and habitual abortus and is presumed to be an autoimmune disease. A 30-year old female patient presented 2 years earlier with left hemiparesis and hemihypoestesia and ischemic cerebrovascular disease was suspected. She had livedo reticularis on all four extremities. History revealed 9 abortus and episodes of depression. Cranial imaging revealed widespread areas of ischemic infarct in the periventricular white matter. Patient was positive for lupus anticoagulant, anticardiolipin IgG and IgM antibodies and had thrombocytopenia and anemia. With history, clinical and laboratory findings, the patient was diagnosed with SS and started on oral anticoagulant. In the light of the findings of this case, we discussed SS which is more common in young females and predisposes to important conditions such as recurrent strokes and abortus.
