Abstract

Intestinal parasites can cause some gastrointestinal system disorders including vomiting, diarrhea, and changes in appetite, as well as malnutrition, which leads to inadequacy in children’s physical and mental development. In this study, it is aimed to determine if there is a meaningful relationship between parasite and hemogram values in children who have G. øntestinalis positive and have fallen behind of their peers about height and weight . In the study, 66 children who are parasite positive compose the experimental group. 57 children who have no parasites and haven’t taken the diagnosis of growth deficiency compose the control group. Hemogram values of the children were measured. Avarage age of the patient group is 9.08±4.30 and children in control group aged 8.81±3.75. In the comparison between hemogram values in infected children and children in control group, no significant differences were found for WBC, HCT, MCV, PLT, LY, NE, EO and BA. A significant difference in HGB and MO was observed between the groups. Children were examined again after their treatment. It was detected in the study that although Giardia intestinalis affected the development of the children adversely, no significant difference was observed in their hemogram values. In this respect, it was concluded that when complaints about digestion system problems and developmental disorders among children are detected, it is necessary to consider a
