Abstract

Introduction: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the results of anatrophic nephrolithotomy (AN) in patients with staghorn renal calculi. Materials and Methods: Between 1997 and 2004, 14 patients who underwent AN were evaluated retrospectively. Stone free rate, mean operation time, mean blood loss and renal ischemia period were determined. Complications were noted. Results: Stone free rate was determined as %87. Mean operation time, mean blood loss and mean renal ischemia period were measured as 600 ml., 180 min. and 21.8 min., respectively. Two patients required blood transfusion because of decrease of hemoglobin and hematocrit. Urinary extravasation was seen in one patient in postoperative period. Conclusion: Especially in the treatment of complete stag horn renal calculi, although developments of minimal invasive approaches, AN is still an effective surgical technique because of the extraction of stone in one time and the high stone free rate.
