Abstract

Majority of the investigations against organized crime groups carried out in Turkey do not apply to mafia type organized crime. In this sense, the organizational structures that have come together to commit other types of crime should be examined and structural changes that differ according to the type of committed crimes needs to be revealed. In previous studies, the definition of organized crime associated with illegal activities of the organizations and “drug trafficking” has been referred to as one of those actions. This study includes investigative work carried out in Erzurum regarding five different drug dealer groups. The information in this study obtained from the examination of documents related to the investigations and from interviews conducted with investigators. As a result, it was found that there are great similarities among organized crime groups regarding the crime zones, the details of drug trafficking and the profiles of organized crime groups.
