Abstract

This study aims to translate KUT commitment scale into Turkish and conduct the validation and reliability studies with the participation of academicians. 340 academic staff working at a university in Turkey participated in the study. The data was collected by using the KUT commitment scale, Organizational Identification, Turnover Intention, and Job Satisfaction subscale of Organizational Assessment Questionnaire. The KUT scale was translated into Turkish by using translation and back translation method. Before applying the factor analysis, KMO and Bartlett’s test of sphericity values were calculated. Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) value was found to be ,846, and Bartlett’s test of sphericity value was statistically significant (p<0,00). These results showed that the data set was sufficient for exploratory factor analysis. It was found that items of the KUT had higher levels of correlations. The principal component analysis was chosen for the extraction method. The varimax method was chosen for rotation, but no result was rotated because factor analysis revealed one dimension. It was found that 82.393% of the variance is explained, and eigenvalue showed one dimension because there was one factor having eigenvalue higher than 1. KUT positively correlated with job satisfaction and organizational identification while negatively correlated with turnover intention. Consequently, the KUT commitment scale is a valid and reliable instrument that can be used for organizational research.
