Abstract

Shoulder pain is a common problem in hemiplegic patients. Twentythree hemiplegic patients with shoulder pain were included in a study to investigate the shoulder joint by means of conventional radiography and magnetic resonans imaging (MRI). The results were compared to those of contralateral shoulder joints of 12 patients. The role of MRI in soft tissue lesions of shoulder was discussed. It was concluded that MRI was an effective modality in evaluating the deeply placed shoulder joint and, in obtaining detailed information about the causes of pain related with soft tissue lesions in hemiplegic patients.
