Abstract

This study evaluates the hydrocarbon potential of the Eastern Mediterranean region and the exploration efforts with the latest developments of the nearby countries: starting from Egypt to Israel, Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA), Lebanon, Syria and Turkey, respectively. Offshore discoveries of Egypt and Israel from the Miocene-Pliocene intervals led to the acceleration in hydrocarbon exploration efforts in the countries bordering Eastern Mediterranean. All countries and foreign investors have shown high interest in the region and have conducted intense exploration programs to reach the drilling phase. Up until now, 70 tcf (trillion cubic feet) proven reserves in place have been estimated. This figure is expected to increase due to the accelerated exploration trend in the region.
