Abstract

Objective: Our purpose was to evaluate the outcome of triplet gestations. Methods: Thirty triplet pregnancy followed at Dicle University School of Medicine between 1994-2003, had been evaluated retrospectively for gestational age at delivery, birth weight, perinatal mortality and for existence of fetal reduction during pregnancy. Results: Ratio of triplets in total deliveries was 0.28%. Thirty-eight percent of the triplets conceived after an ovulation induction. Fetal reduction was found at a ratio of 14%. Gestational age at delivery was 35.25±3.30 weeks, birth weight was 2094±511g, and perinatal mortality was 0 in reduced triplets. They were 31.68±5.54 weeks, 1515±686g and 37% respectively for expectantly managed triplets. Conclusion: Low gestational age at delivery, low birthweight and high perinatal mortality were found in the expectantly managed triplets when compared with reduced triplets. Multifetal reduction in triplet gestations seems to be effective for better fetal outcome when antenatal and neonatal care facilities are suboptimal..

Özet

Amaç: Üçüz gebeliklerde perinatal prognozun incelenmesi. Yöntem: Dicle Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesinde 1994-2003 yılları arasında takip edilen 30 üçüz gebelik olgusu, gebelikte redüksiyon varlığı, doğumdaki gebelik haftası, yenidoğan ağırlığı ve perinatal mortalite yönünden retrospektif olarak incelendi. Bulgular: On yıllık dönemdeki doğumlar içinde üçüz oranı %0.28 olarak belirlendi. Üçüzlerin %38'i ovülasyon indüksiyonu sonucunda elde edilmişti.
