Abstract

Aim: In this study we aimed to compare levels of cardiac troponin-I (cTn-I) and myoglobin before and after exercise and to demonstrate the relation with myocardial injury in patients with slow coronary flow (SCF). Material and Method: 46 patients with SCF diagnosed by coronary angiography and TIMI frame count and 16 healthy subjects with normal coronary flow were included in study. Maximal exercise stress test according to Bruce protocol was performed in both groups. Peripheric venous blood sampling was done before and 12 hour after test for measurement of cTn-I and myoglobin. Results: No ST depression caused by ischemia was observed during exercise tests of both groups. There was no significant difference between levels of cTn-I and myoglobin before and after test in SCF group (cTn-I; 0.20±0.03 ng/ml, 0.27±0.02 ng/ml, myoglobin 30.21±2.11 mg/dl, 30.86±2.31 mg/dl p>0.05). Compared with NCF group there was no difference in levels of cTn-I and myoglobin in SCF group (p>0.05). Exercise test results, cTn-I and myoglobin levels were similar in 9 patients who experienced chest pain during exercise test. There was no difference between levels of cTn-I and myoglobin before and after exercise according to number of vessels with SCF and artery in which CSF is dominant. Conclusion: Myocardial injury couldn't be determined biochemically in patients with CSF. These results supports the idea that angina of patients with SCF is not caused by myocardial injury.
