Abstract

Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is classified as primary and secondary. Primary tricuspid regurgitation is associated with intrinsic valve pathology. The secondary tricuspid regurgitation results from right ventricular dysfunction, and the most common cause is left heart disease, either myocardial or valvular. The treatment of tricuspid regurgitation is guided by underlying etiology and pathology. In this article we will review the data about the mechanism, prognostic implications, and management of TR.
