Abstract

Aim: We investigated the relationships between in-hospital cardiac complications and serial measurements of cardiac troponin I (cTnI), myoglobin and creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Material and Methods: This study included 92 patients with ACS performed primary PCI. cTnI, myoglobin and CK-MB levels were measured in venous blood samples obtained from patients shortly before (0), 6, 12, and 24 hours after PCI. In hospital period after PCI, patients were divided into 2 groups: the cases with (Group A, n=22) and without (Group B, n=70) cardiac complications. Results: Mean cTnI (p<0.01), myoglobin (p<0.001) and CK-MB (p<0.05) values obtained 24 hours after PCI were higher in group A than in group B. In group B, mean myoglobin values measured at the 12th and 24th hours were found to be significantly decreased when compared to both 0th and 6th hours values (p<0.001). Conclusion: We think that noninvasive assessment of in-hospital cardiac complications after primary PCI in ACS might be possible with serial measurements of cardiac markers.
