Abstract

Aim: Failure to provide a sufficient distal flow in the infarct-related artery after thrombolytic treatment is an important problem. Such patients have high rates of mortality and morbidity. Material and Methods: The study included a total of 32 cases, 6 females and 26 males, on whom rescue balloon angioplasty and stent was performed due to AMI Results: Mean rescue balloon angioplasty duration was 2.16±1.7 hours. 34.4% of the patients had anterior (11/32) and 65.6% (21/32) had inferior localization. After the procedure, stent was placed in 94% (30/32) of the cases. TIMI-III flow was provided in 91% (29/32) and TIMI-II flow in 9% (3/32) of the cases. Mean ST segment resolution was 66-12.4%. Emergency operation, death and re-infarction was not observed during hospitalization. Left ventricle ejection fraction (EF) which was 42±8% at discharge increased to 51±10% in the 6th month (p:0.004). Major cardiac event was observed in 6% (2/32) of the cases in the 6-month follow-up. Conclusion: Rescue balloon angioplasty is a reliable and efficient treatment procedure, when it is performed without losing time.
