Abstract

The role of inflammation is prominent in the onset and progression of coronary atherosclerosis. Visfatin has been shown to be involved in the inflammatory process which is an important part of atherosclerosis. There is a strong correlation between elevated serum visfatin levels and myocardial necrosis in acute coronary syndrome. The role of increased visfatin in the inflammatory process and in the maturation of vascular smooth muscle cells may shed light on the possible effect of coronary atherosclerosis. In the literature, we did not find a review of study about serum visfatin levels in patients with ischemic heart disease, so we aimed to summarized studies about the effect of serum visfatin on the atherosclerosis process.
