Abstract

Objective: Clinical and histopathological studies support the close relationship between the amount of calcium present in the coronary arteries and atherosclerotic coronary artery disease. In addition, coronary artery disease and mitral annular calcification (MAC) is thought to have a common etiology. In our study, we investigated the relationship between mitral valve stenosis and aortic valve steno-sis and coronary artery disease by using the coronary artery calcium score. Material and Method: We studied 28 patients with aortic valve stenosis (mean age 64 ± 9.45 years), 23 patients with mitral valve steno-sis (mean age 58 ± 12.23 years) and 18 healthy subjects (mean age 60 ± 7.27 years). Results: The coronary calcium score in aortic valve stenosis group was higher than the control group (p 0.05). Conclusion: The coronary calcium score in patients with aortic stenosis was higher than the control group, while there was no such re-lationship in patients with mitral valve stenosis.
