Abstract

Objective: Both white coat hypertension and non‐dipping blood pressure pattern is associated with increased risk of end organ damage and cardiovascular complication. Recently, red cell distribution width, an easily obtainable and cheap parameter of complete blood count, has been shown to have a prognostic value for various cardiovascular diseases and hypertension. In this study, the relationship between red cell distribution width and nocturnal non‐dipping status was investigated in individuals with white coat hypertension. Material and Method: Sixty eight individuals diagnosed as white coat hypertension by ambulatory blood pressure monitoring in cardiology clinic between June 2017 and June 2019 were evaluated retrospectively. The participants of the study were divided into 2 groups based on nocturnal blood pressure status as dippers (n=25) and nondippers (n=43). Laboratory data of the groups including complete blood count were compared between groups. Results: Demographic and biochemical parameters of the groups were similar. Hemoglobin and hematocrit levels were significantly higher in dipper group (p=0.007, p=0.014). Red cell distribution width was significantly higher in non‐dipper group (p<0.001). Red cell distribution width was shown to be the only independent predictor of non‐dipping status (OR [%95CI], 6.051 [2.203‐16.621]; p<0.001). Conclusion: Red cell distribution width may be a useful parameter to predict nocturnal non‐dipping status independently in individuals with white coat hypertension.

Eritrosit dağılım genişliğinin, non‐dipper kan basıncı paterninin tek bağımsız öngördürücüsü olduğu belirlenmiştir (OR [%95CI], 6.051 [2.203‐ 16.621]; p<0,001). Sonuç: Beyaz önlük hipertansiyonu tanısı konulan bireylerde eritrosit dağılım genişliği, diğer parametrelerden bağımsız olarak non‐dipper kan basıncı paternini öngörmede yararlı bir parametre olabilir.
