Abstract

Aim:To investigate the patients who applied to our emergency service with eye trauma.Material and Method:Two thousand, seven hundred and sixty nine (23.3%) of the total11872 patients who applied our emergency service between January 2006 and May 2007, hadeye trauma. The records of the patients were evaluated retrospectively. The diagnose, age andgender of the patients were recorded and detailed ophthalmologic examinations were evalu-ated.Results:Of the patients who applied to our emergency service 38.7% were female and61.3% were male. The mean age of the patients was 30.4 ± 18,7 years (0-93). The female trau-matic cases was only 7.5% of all. Two thousand, one hundred and eighteen patients had minorcorneal and conjunctival pathologies. Two hundred and forty two patients who applied theemergency service had corneal burn. The most common cause was lime with a ratio of 51.2%.Four hundred and nine patients applied with severe eye injury. The most common cause of se-vere eye injury was fist and the most common eye pathology was penetrated eye injury. Conclusion:From the perspective of gender distribution of the cases exposed to trauma,it is seen that the majority (92.5 %) of cases are male. When the cases are assessed in thelight of injury types, a noteworthy conclusion drew our attention that most the cause of thetrauma in of the cases were the preventable causes. The simple precautions at the workplace, home or traffic can prevent many eye injuries.

Travma olgularının ise sadece %7,5'i kadındı.
