Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the effect of capsular tension ring on posterior capsular opasification. Material and Method: Eighty five eyes of 55 patients with pseudoexfoliaton who under- went phacoemulsification were included in the study. Capsular tension ring was implanted in 38 of the eyes. Remaining 47 eyes without capsuler tension ring implantation served as con- trol group. Eleven to 26 months (average 18.5 months) after the surgery, patients were evalu- ated for the posterior capsular opacity. Results:Posterior capsular opasification developed in 4 eyes (1.55 %) in capsular tension ring implantation group and 8 eyes (17.02 %) in the control group. This difference reached si- tatistically significance (p<0.05). Conclusions: Capsular tension ring is associated with a significantly reduced incidence of posterior capsular opacity.

Özet

Amaç: Katarakt cerrahisinde kapsül germe halkası (KGH) uygulamasının arka kapsül opasifikasyonu (AKO) üzerine etkisini araştırmak. Gereç ve Yöntem: Fakoemülsifikasyonla katarakt cerrahisi ve katlanabilir göz içi lensi (GİL) uygulanmış psödoeksfolyasyonlu (PEX) 55 hastanın 85 gözü çalışmaya alındı. Gözler- den 38’ine kapsül germe halkası (KGH) uygulanırken 47’sine yerleştirilmedi. Ortalama 18.5 ay (11-26 ay) takip sonrası arka kapsül opasifikasyonu gelişimi değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Kapsül germe halkası takılan 38 gözün 4’ünde (%1,55), takılmayan 47 gözün 8’inde (%17,02) arka kapsül opasifikasyonu gelişti. İki grup arasındaki arka kapsül gelişimi açısından fark istatistiksel olarak anlamlıydı (p<0,05). Sonuç: Katarakt cerrahisi sırasında kapsül germe halkası uygulanması arka kapsül opa- sifikasyonu gelişimini azaltmaktadır.
