Abstract

Objective: To evaluate refractive error changes in long-term follow-up of patients diagnosed with refractive accommodative esotropia. Material and Method: The patients who were admitted to our strabismus unit between 2007-2008 and diagnosed as refractive accommodative esotropia were reviewed retrospectively. Cases with the diagnosis of full refractive accommodative esotropia aged 5-7 years and followed for at least 10 years were included in the study. Clinical examination findings, cycloplegic autorefraction and the presence of amblyopia were recorded in all cases. In these cases, the same parameters were also evaluated and recorded at the end of 5 years and 10 years. The initial, 5th year, and 10th year cycloplegic autorefraction values of all cases were evaluated as spherical, cylindrical and spherical equivalents and compared with one sample t test statistically. P <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Fifty eight cases were included in this study. Thirty nine (67.24%) of the cases were female and 19 (32.75%) were male. The initial spherical refraction values were 3.83±1.8 D in the right eye, 4.80±1.31 D in the left eye and the 10th year values were 2.49±2.01 D in the right eye and 2.92±1.8 D in the left eye. Statistically significant difference was found in spherical refraction and spherical equivalent values in all parameters. There was no significant difference in cylindrical refraction measurements. Conclusions: There was statistically significant difference in spherical refraction and spherical equivalent values in patients with refractive accommodative esotropia and cylindrical refraction values were not statistically significant.

On dört (%24,13) olguda başlangıçta ambliyopi tespit edildi. Sferik refraksiyon değerleri başlangıç muayenelerinde sağ göz 3,83±1,8 D, sol göz 4,80±1,31 D bulunurken, 10. yılda sağ göz 2,49±2,01 D, sol göz 2,92±1,8 D olarak saptandı. Sferik refraksiyon değişimleri ve sferik eşdeğer açısından tüm parametrelerde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark saptandı. Silindirik refraksiyon ölçümlerinde ise anlamlı fark saptanmadı. Sonuç: Refraktif akomodatif ezotropyalı olgularda uzun dönemde sferik refraksiyon ve sferik eşdeğer değerlerinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark saptanmış olup, silindirik refraksiyon değerlerinde anlamlı fark bulunmamıştır.
