Abstract

The fact that muscle flaps enable reconstruction of large and complicated defects with satisfactory results in terms of appearance and function at a single session led them to be employed commonly in the practice of plastic surgery technique. Many muscle flap models have been descriped to investigate muscle flaps. Rat cremaster muscle flap is one of the these models. The major advantage of the model is thickness of the flap which is the thinnest flap to be transilluminated for microcirculatuar observations. It is the ideal flap model for investigation of ischein areperfusion injury. In this study anatomical dissection of the rat cremaster muscle flap was done to explain it's variations for investigators especally who interest microcirculation studies.
