Abstract

OBJECTİVE: To investigate of prognostic importance of intraoperative cyst rupture in patients with early stage epithelial ovarian carcinoma MATERIAL AND METHODS: The prognostic influence of intraoperative tumor rupture was examined in 49 patients with stage I malignant ovarian carcinoma were treated between 1990 and 1998. The patients were divided into three groups. Group 1 included 14 patients with stage Ia, group 2 included 19 patients with stage Ic and group 3 included 16 patients with stage Ic secondary to intraoperative rupture. Survival analysis was performed by using the Kaplan-Maier technique. Multivariate analysis was made by using the Cox's proportional hazard model. RESULTS: Overall survivals were not different among the three groups (P>0.05). The multivariate analysis identified that degree of differentiation as only prognostic indicator (P=0.07, hazard ratio=3.1). CONCLUSION: In conclusion, our study shows that rupture of the tumor during surgery has no influence on survival rates, however, grade is an important prognostic factor in stage I epithelial ovarian carcinoma.

Özet

AMAÇ: Erken evre epitelyal over karsinomlarında operasyon anında meydana gelen tümör rüptürlerinin prognostik önemini araştırmak MATERYAL ve METOD: 1990-98 tarihleri arasında cerrahi tedavi uygulanan 49 evre I epitelyal over karsinomu olgusunun verileri incelendi.
