Abstract

Objective: Although falls from a height in the hospital is an issue that lead to different health problems for the people who are treated in the hospital, it can be avoided by taking the necessary precautions. In this study, it is aimed to compare the BUÇH Fall Risk Assessment Scale developed in 2011 for children with the data from the Behcet Uz Children's Diseases and Surgery Training and Research Hospital and to develop BUÇH II Fall Risk Scale by revising the scale. Methods: The research was designed in methodological type. The data belonged to 58 fallers hospitalized between the years 2013-2014 were collected from patient's history retrospectively whereas prospective data were collected using the face-to-face interview with 148 non-fallers hospitalized between the period March 2015 to July 2015. Information collection form consisting of 31 questions including BUÇH and HARİZMİ fall risk assessment scales besides socio-demographic information was used when collecting the data. Results: According to this; the risk of falling in the groups with "burns, metabolicendocrine, respiratory, gastrointestinal system and multiple diseases" was 11 times higher compared to the "other" patients group. The risk of falling in the age groups of 1-4, 5-8, >=9 years was 13, 10, and 2 times higher when compared to the patients less than one year old. The risk of falling in patients who did not use care equipment is 7 times higher than those who used it.Conclusion: Diagnosis, care equipment, age, sex and treatment-sedation are determined as Kabul tarihi: 07.06.2017 risk factors for hospital falls, so it is appropriate for falling risk assessment scale covers these items.
