Abstract

It is important to determine the misconceptions of primary mathematics preservice teachers’ knowledge of probability and to take measures toward this case. However, when the literature analyzed, it is seen that problem posing potential has been ignored. Therefore, in the present study, the final year students from primary mathematics teachers department were asked to set and solve problems based on dependent and independent events conceptions. Within this context, case study approach was used in the study. The participants were comprised of 6 preservice mathematics teachers. Clinical interview method was used as a data collection tool. According to the results of the study, it was found that primary mathematics preservice teachers do not have any misconceptions about independent events. However, all preservice teachers could not set most of four the problems properly, which were formed in accordance with dependent events, because of misconceptions
