Abstract

Glaucoma, a chronic optic neuropathy, is characterized by a progressive loss of the retinal nerve fiber layer and visual field defects. Reduction of IOP is the most efficient and clinically accepted therapy. Topical medications for lowering IOP have shown good efficacy and safety in glaucoma. It is known that inadequate compliance with glaucoma therapy is a risk factor for progression of the disease. Monotherapy has some clear advantages for the treatment of glaucoma. This review aims to discuss monotherapy.
