Abstract

Financial liberalization has been increasing since the 1980s to the present day. In this period, which is called the new globalization period, it's been aimed that countries with savings gap acquire capital by using various financial instruments from countries with oversaving. In some countries, increased financial development has driven a profit motive through a wide range of financial instruments, from investments that lead to employment, and has led to increased unemployment and income inequality. In this study, the relationship between financial development and income inequality in the new globalization period was examined using annual data for the period 1988-2016 belonging to E7 countries. While the Gini coefficient is used for income inequality, the Financial Development Index is preferred as the representative of financial development. In addition, economic growth variable was used as a control variable. New generation panel cointegration tests allowing for multiple structural breaks from cross-sectional dependence and heterogeneity into account substantial alan Westerlund (2006) test is preferred in this study, relationships between variables Financial Development Index and Gini coefficient of per capita income were obtained in the presence of cointegration.
