Abstract

In keen competitiveness environment of today’s information society, businesses need thoughts and creativity of human capital, which is their most important strategic wealth in order to survive and increase their market shares. It was observed that business workers remain silent / unresponsive because of the reasons such as that they easily accept the problems they face, think they cannot change the things they see as problems, avoid saying opposite opinions fearing of being criticised, willing not to be seen as a problematic person and preferring to be silent for the sake of others’ goodness in order not to harm the relationships between their colleagues. By examining the variables causing this silence environment, revealing the problem and solving it, it will be possible to transform the silence environment into the sound environment. The aim of present study is to investigate the role of power distance perception in a relationship between authentic leadership perception and organisational silence attitude. Method of the study was designed in an expressive way. Data collection method is questionnaire survey. Data were gathered using easy sampling method from the workers of the banks with private and public capital. According to results of the study, there is a positive relationship between authentic leadership and protective silence dimension while it is negative between authentic leadership and accepting and protective silence dimensions. In addition, regulatory role of power distance was determined significantly in the relationship between authentic leadership and organisational silence dimensions, i.e. accepting, preserving and protective silence. From the results of the study, it can be stated that in transparent, ethic, unbiased and self – aware leadership perception (authentic leadership) and the organisations, where less degree of inequality is perceived between sub and top (power distance) human resources may pass from silence to polyphony and make intellectual contributions.
