Abstract

Objective: Codependency is defined as “a learned or survival behaviour in dysfunctional families with resulting neglect of one’s own needs and excessively focusing on others”. Its known that codependency is associated with disorder of parental functionality. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of family of origin relations on codependency in nurses. Methods: A total of 232 cases participated in the study. Applied Family of Origin Relations Inventory (FORI) and Nurse Codependency Questionnaire (NCQ) were applied on all participants. All statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 22.0.Results: Mean age of 232 study participants was 29.71±8.76 years, and 90.5% of them were female. Mean FORI (12.75±3.64); “NCQ entire” (67.35±12.72)“codependent caretaking” sub-scale (38.49±9.29); and “lack of voice” scale (28.85±5.6) scores were estimated. There was a significant positive correlation (r=0.153, p=0.02) between FORI-“NCQ entire” scores and highly significant positive correlation (r=0.239, p=0.00) between FORI- “NCQ lack of voice” sub-scale scores. Conclusion: In this study we have come to the conclusion that the nurses’ problematic relationship with their origin family is associated with the high level of codependency and lack of expression.

Özet

Amaç: Karşılıklı bağımlılık "işlevi bozuk ailelerden getirilen veya öğrenilen, kişinin kendi gereksinimlerini ihmal etmesi ve başkalarına aşırı odaklanmasıyla sonuçlanan bir davranış" şeklinde tanımlanmaktadır. Karşılıklı bağımlılığın, aile işlevselliğinin bozukluğuyla ilişkili olduğu bildirilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, hemşirelerde kök aile ilişkilerinin karşılıklı bağımlılığa etkisini incelemektir. Yöntem: Çalışmaya 232 hemşire alındı. Katılımcılara Kök Aile İlişkileri Envanteri (KAİE) ve Hemşire Karşılıklı Bağımlılık Ölçeği (HKBÖ) uygulandı ve tüm istatistiksel analizler SPSS 22.0 kullanılarak yapıldı.Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan 232 katılımcının yaş ortalamasının 29.71±8.76 olduğu saptandı. Katılımcıların%90.5'i kadındı. Katılımcıların KAİE puan ortalaması12.75±3.64; HKBÖ puan ortalaması 67.35±12.72; bağımlı bakım alt ölçeği puan ortalaması 38.49±9.29; ifade eksikliği alt ölçeği puan ortalaması 28.85±5.61 idi. Katılımcıların KAİE - HKBÖ toplam puanları arasında anlamlı (r=0.153, p=0.02), KAİE - HKBÖ ifade eksikliği alt ölçek puanları arasında ise ileri düzeyde anlamlı (r=0.239, p=0.00) pozitif yönlü bir ilişki saptandı. Sonuç: Bu çalışmada, hemşirelerde sağlıksız kök aile ile ilişkilerin, karşılıklı bağımlılık ve ifade eksikliği düzeyinin yüksek olmasıyla ilişkili olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
