Abstract

Objective: Research was designed as a descriptive and methodological study in order to determine validity and reliability of “Uterine Fibroid Symptom and Quality of Life” (UFS-QOL) in Turkish society and also quality of life of women with uterine fibroids. Methods: Data from 245 patients who were admitted to Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, GATA Haydarpasa Training Hospital between 04.10.2011 01.06.2011were collected. Obstetrics and Gynecology Diagnostic Form, Short Form-36 and UFS-QOL were re-applied to UFSYKO after 4 weeks. Results: Test-retest reliability coefficient was r=0.99; Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient was found to be0.97. UFS-QOL scale total score was determined as60.55±22:14. While 37.1% of the patients were admitted to hospital due to bleeding, and complaints of 40.8% of the patients continued for 0-6 months Most (62.4%) of the patients had low hemoglobin and hematocrit values, and mothers of 42% of the patients had a history of uterine fibroids. Some (35.1%) patients had undergone myomectomy/hysterectomy, and in 42.9% of them incontinence was detected..Conclusions: UFS-QOL was found to be a valid, and reliable tool to measure the quality of life of patients with uterine fibroid in Turkish society. According to UFS-QOL women who had chronic disease, urinary incontinence, and low hemoglobin values were found to have lower quality of life
