Abstract

The aim of drug treatment is to maximize the beneficial effects of the drug, and to minimize its harmful side effects. Nurses are responsible for the application of drugs in compliance with correct principles, monitoring patients’ responses to drug therapy, and educating them about the drug/drugs they use by evaluating the individual using a holistic approach. Accordingly, nurses have to allocate a significant portion of their daily working time to drug applications. Complications such as local pain, ecchymosis or hematomas are frequently seen as a result of incorrect administration of subcutaneous injections of low-molecular weight heparin, insülin and morphine that the individual has to apply by him/herself, and complications related to clinical applications of nurses. In reducing these problems, it is very important to take the individual’s developmental characteristics, health status into consideration and to ensure the patient’s safety. This article aims to propose a recommendation for “safe injection applications” in the light of the research results related to the problem of preventing adverse effects arising from subcutaneous injection applications.
