Abstract

This research aimed to determine to students’ personality features effect on cultural intelligence. The students who are educating on tourism have adapted to industries and to meet different cultures as the years pass. The research is in the scope of heuristic approach. The population of study in the field of tourism education students constitutes Turkey. Survey form was used as data collection tool while using quantitative method. Because it was not possible to reach the whole of the universe, sampling was made easily sampling method and a total of 396 tourism education students were interviewed and the questionnaire forms were filled. According to results, tourism students’ personality features effect to their cultural intelligences. Also, cognition sub dimension of cultural intelligence is affected by Agreeableness; motivation sub dimension is affected by extraversion and behavior sub dimension is affect by extraversion and conscientiousness. As a result of the general examination, it has been determined that the five factor personality traits affect the level of cultural intelligence. Thereby, it can be stated that the personality traits of the tourism educators influence the cultural intelligence levels.

Özet

Bu araştırmanın amacı, turizm eğitimi gören öğrencilerin kişilik özelliklerinin kültürel zekâ düzeylerine etkisinin belirlenmesidir. Araştırmada nicel yöntem kullanılmakla beraber veri toplama aracı olarak anket kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın evrenini Türkiye’de turizm eğitimi gören öğrenciler oluşturmaktadır. Evrenin tamamına erişilmesinin mümkün olmaması sebebiyle kolayda örneklem metodu aracılığıyla örneklem alma yoluna gidilmiş ve araştırma kapsamında turizm eğitimi gören toplam 396 öğrenci ile görüşülerek anketler doldurulmuştur. Araştırma kapsamında elde edilen sonuçlar incelendiğinde turizm eğitimi gören öğrencilerin kişilik özelliklerinin kültürel zekâ düzeylerini olumlu yönde etkilediği tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca kültürel zekâ alt boyutlarından biliş boyutunu, uyumluluk, motivasyon alt boyutunu dışa dönüklük ve davranış alt boyutunu ise öz disiplin ve dışa dönüklük alt boyutları olumlu yönde etkilediği sonuçlarına ulaşılmıştır. Genel olarak yapılan inceleme sonucunda ise beş faktör kişilik özelliklerinin kültürel zekâ düzeyini etkilediği tespit edilmiştir. Dolayısıyla turizm eğitimi gören öğrencilerin sahip olduğu kişilik özelliklerinin kültürel zekâ düzeylerini etkilediği ifade edilebilir.
