Abstract
Femvertising has gained visibility in contemporary visual culture as an advertising strategy that integrates feminist discourse into brand communication and foregrounds women’s empowerment. This study examines how empowerment rhetoric positions the female subject in static advertising posters associated with femvertising and whether this representation transforms the regime of objectification. The research focuses on ten static posters published between 2025 and 2026 in the fields of sports, fashion, automotive, environment, health, culture/arts, and social awareness. These posters are related to themes such as empowerment, visibility, the body, achievement, freedom of expression, health awareness, and subjectivation. The theoretical framework draws on Objectification Theory, the gaze regime, performativity, and the commercialization of empowerment rhetoric in advertising discourse. The study employs a multilayered semiotic analysis based on Barthes’s denotative, connotative, and mythical layers of meaning. Visual composition, body representation, gaze regime, color arrangement, and typographic structure are examined as the main analytical categories. The findings indicate that empowerment discourse in femvertising does not eliminate objectification practices; rather, it restructures sexual appeal, passivization, bodily idealization, and myths of the powerful woman within a performative advertising aesthetics. The study positions femvertising at the intersection of subjectivation discourse and the commercialization of women’s representation, offering a conceptual framework for explaining the formal continuity of objectification in contemporary advertising posters.
