Abstract

Human beings need to live in a society to meet necessities and protect themselves from various dangers. Society life makes them obey some rules which regulate the daily life. Law is the most important tool which reflects justice to the social life. Justice reflected by the law is also a moral value. The main purpose of the present study is to determine preservice teachers’ views regarding the value of justice, and how they will teach justice in their professional life. Survey model was used in the study. Data of the study were collected through a questionnaire which consists of open ended and closed ended questions. Participants of the study were third grade pre-service teachers attending programs in Preschool Education, Primary School Education and Social Studies Education in a state University in 2016-2017 spring term. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and content analysis were used to analyze data. Results of the research revealed that pre-service teachers define justice as being fair and discriminating between right and wrong. Metaphors created by teacher candidates for justice were grouped under categories of regulatory, counterbalance, distribution, fairness, social and sense of injustice. In the Chi-Square analysis, there was no statistically significant relationship between the variables and created categories. Pre-service teachers stated that teachers’ behaviors and teaching-learning process are important in teaching the value of justice. While teacher candidates recommended most drama method for teaching the value of justice, they emphasized that case studies should be taken into account in the process.
